When seconds count the police are just days away. Literally.
This story comes to us from Oakland, CA. Dashcam video shows a driver opening fire on another driver in an Oakland intersection in what seems to be a weird road-rage incident. (Video below)
Lot’s of physical evidence here to piece together what went down.
We have video of a bizarre road-rage incident.
We have the make, model and color of the shooter’s truck.
We have a good pic of the suspect.
What we don’t have is Oakland PD on the case.
Now, you would think that some random guy running a red light, getting out of his truck and taking a shot at someone who had the “audacity” of honking his horn at him would garner some police response. I mean, I count at least one misdemeanor and two felonies in broad daylight. But this is Oakland and we must remember, Oakland PD don’t roll like that. Actually, in this instance they don’t roll at all.
I think the rank-and-file is having a hard time buying into this level of weird.
After THREE attempts Oakland PD still hasn’t taken a complete incident report. They say they’re looking into the matter.
Now, in this situation I would be hard pressed to say that if the victim should have drawn his weapon if he was armed. The responsibility of a CCW holder is knowing when a deadly force confrontation is warranted or the best course of action is to get the heck outta Dodge. Unless you are in a no-win situation you never draw your weapon when you’re already drawn upon. Bugging-out in this case was the best option. Plus, one of the four basic gun rules is: Know your target and what’s behind it. You own every round you fire so getting into a shooting match in the middle of a busy intersection when there are so many bystanders around would not be sound judgement. He did the right thing.
But if there was ever a reason why the right to carry is so important it’s on display right here. No one is coming to help you when your life or your family’s lives are on the line. Heck, in Oakland, it seems that you can’t even get a police report taken or an investigation started days later.
People, we’re on our own out here.
On a side note:
#abc7News, why blur the suspect’s face? I understand keeping the identity of the victim a secret but I have to believe that if you're a crazed lunatic who exits a truck in the middle of a busy intersection and pops off a shot at a passing car you lose your privilege of anonymity.
Too bad the victim didn't floor it and ran over the criminal.
